Bryan, It seems like all of coach Mac's players love him! What made you go to play for him and what was it that he did to impact your Utah career & life?

Tobey J.

Tobey J,

Coach McBride has a way of making people he comes in contact with feel good.  As a player, and I am sure as fans, you can tell if a coach is using the position as a stepping stone.  With Coach McBride what you see is what you get.  He is humble, kind, funny, and fiercely competitive.  Players play for and love Coach McBride because you know he will do anything in his power to help you succeed not only on the field but in your personal life.  His wife Vicky is the other part of the puzzle she makes all the new players feel at home and you can tell she really cares about the team as much as Coach McBride.

As far as his impact on my Utah career and life....Coach McBride taught me to take responsibility for my actions no matter what the consequences.  He taught hard work, metal toughness, attitude, effort, unity and honesty.  He made my time at Utah worth every high and low we experienced.  As far as my life he impacts it to this day we are still best friends and I see him as often as I can.  My dad passed away in October and Coach McBride took time out of his busy schedule to attend the funeral....that is something I will never forget.  I actually go to Weber State games instead of Utah games if I am in town and both teams are playing.  I think the biggest influence he had on my life is I try to make everyone I meet feel special.  I try to look them in the eye and really listen to what they have to say.

GO UTES!!!

Bryan,

I feel like the 1993 victory in Provo was the turning point for the program, from which we have never looked back.  Can you tell us what the feeling was like playing in that game?

Jonathan D.

Jonathan D.

I agree with you, the 1993 game was a turning point in the program.  I

would say it started in 1990 with the arrival of Coach McBride.  It took

3 long years of hard work to get to that game.  I think the most

important thing we did in that time period was recruit and sign the best

in-state kids.  All the Utah County players feel like we had a lot to do

with getting the program where it is today.

The feeling of playing in that game was awesome. I grew up in Orem so

the Cougars fans tried to harass me even more.  I used to laugh at the

comments they would come up with...its amazing they don't get why

everyone gets so annoyed with them....let me give them a hint, they are

annoying!!!  I loved walking into BYU stadium with all the Ute Fans

going crazy in the North end zone.  I still remember climbing up in the

stands to hug my mom and dad after the game.  Our fans mobbed me so it

took a bit but I found them...it was a great time.  I loved seeing the

smiles on the fans faces because we had waited 20 years to beat them in

Provo.

GO UTES!!

Bryan,

Is it tough to get up for all of the games every week.  How do you get

excited to go against San Diego State or UNLV in comparison to  TCU and BYU?

From: Taylor Frank.

Taylor,

I always found it hard to believe someone wouldn't be up for a game??  Players put in so much time in the off season and during the season, not be up for every game is crazy...but it happens.  I think the way to get up for every game is to have personal goals for yourself.  I think those goals helped me be ready to play every week.  I always wanted to catch at least 5 passes, gain 100 yards or more, and score a touchdown.  I also had goals for down field blocking, we called them de-cleaters(I would try to get at least 5 each game).  With all that being said if you don't get up for every game you lose.  Examples of that are at UNLV in 2007 and I think we lost to Idaho my senior year at home.  The mentality for being up for every game is learned over years of success and failure.  I think Urban Meyer should get the credit for taking Utah Football to the next level when it came to preparation and being ready for each game.
